The presumption of the right to life: in defense of the ancient forests of Russia!

When we talk about the conservation of wild animals, some measures to save endangered species begin only when extinction becomes obvious.

Moreover! The extinction of the last rarest organisms usually also needs to be proved!

“O”! – then (maybe!) wise Decision Makers will say, – “Indeed, everything is dead! Hmm…well, then, let’s just end up with a ban on killing…since it almost doesn’t exist anyway.”

That is, you can shamelessly destroy everything until we put it on the brink of complete annihilation. And then (perhaps!) we will begin to preserve what we ourselves have almost completely destroyed.

The Barguzinsky nature reserve in Siberia was created to save the last sables. Several dozen animals remained alive throughout the taiga at that time. Saved. Saved. Desperate efforts of enthusiasts who fought for the life of this endangered species!

The western black rhinoceros went extinct in 2006. Haven’t been able to save.

The Caucasian bison became extinct in 1927. Prior to this, approximately by the middle of the 19th century, the Caucasian elk had become extinct.

Back in the 18th-19th centuries, the tarpan, a wild variety of horse, was widely distributed in the steppes of a number of European countries, the southern and southeastern European part of Russia, in Western Siberia and on the territory of Western Kazakhstan. It was widespread and ubiquitous. With many subspecies that differed from each other.

Steller’s cow, marsupial wolf, Falkland fox and many other species on all continents. The list of those who could not be saved is endless.

Are these particular types of animals really that important? Should we fight to save them at all?

When we talk about the preservation of entire biological systems, entire biocenoses, we are still faced with the same problem! We still need to prove for a long time and stubbornly:

A.) That the ecosystem is indeed on the verge of complete destruction.

B.) That this dying biological system must be preserved.

NO RIGHT TO THE EXISTENCE OF OR INDIVIDUAL TYPES OF LIVING ORGANISMS, NOR BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS “BY DEFAULT” IS RECOGNIZED!

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS?!

THERE IS NO PRESUMPTION OF THE RIGHT TO LIFE!

Now my colleagues and I are fighting to save the last remaining ancient forests on planet Earth. The last complex biological systems formed without human intervention. The last sections of the forest with a thousand-year history.

We are trying to raise the issue of the importance of preserving the ancient forest in front of society.

We are addressing the state authorities with the initiative to preserve ancient forests.

And we have taken the first step! When a public initiative becomes a mass one, it is noticed.

The first step to solving any problem is to recognize the problem. Recognize its presence. And we have ALREADY DONE! The issue of preserving the ancient forest has been raised both for society and for the authorities.

It is clear that this is only the first step. We need to move on!

And here it is important to understand for yourself, the problem of WHAT LEVEL OF COMPLEXITY we are trying to move from the “dead center”.

QUOTE FROM THE RESPONSE OF ROSLESKHOZ TO OUR APPEAL:

“The Federal Forestry Agency considered the appeals of a group of applicants received from the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation on the issue of a ban on cutting down ancient or old-growth forests on the territory of the Russian Federation and reports the following.

RUSSIAN LEGISLATION DOES NOT HAVE THE CONCEPT OF “ANCIENT” OR “OLD GROWTH” FORESTS. THE LEGISLATION OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES ALSO DOES NOT REGULATE THE ISSUES OF ALLOCATION AND MANAGEMENT OF OLD GROWTH FORESTS.

The international experience of forest protection shows that if there are scientific grounds for the conservation of any valuable forest tracts, they are given the appropriate protective status, protection regime and use restrictions provided for by national legislation. In the Russian Federation, there are protective forests and forests located on the lands of specially protected natural areas (hereinafter – PAs).”

Fundamentally important point!

“IN THE RUSSIAN LEGISLATION THERE IS NO CONCEPT OF “ANCIENT” OR “OLD-GROWN” FORESTS. THE LEGISLATION OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES ALSO DOES NOT REGULATE THE ISSUES OF ALLOCATION AND MANAGEMENT OF OLD GROWTH FORESTS.

Preservation of the ancient forest is JUST REALIZING AS AN URGENT NEED FOR PEOPLE.

Preservation of the ancient forest does not yet exist as a legal concept, not only in our country, but also in the world!

And, most importantly, no “presumption of the right to life” for the ancient forest is even considered!

The question is not simple. It concerns legislation, concerns legal issues. The bottom line is that you can take any ecosystem and use it as you like. This is how it is set up now. Cutting down forests or extracting minerals, for example. Quite recently, the concept of “environmental expertise” has appeared. Quite recently, cases of interstate conflicts began to appear, when the exploitation of an ecosystem by one state harms another state. All these questions began to be raised in general only a few decades ago. In the XXI century.

And now the understanding that all people and all states depend on the state of ecosystems is only just beginning to be regulated by some kind of treaties and rules. It’s just getting into the legal realm.

And now we are raising the question of the right of the ancient forest to exist. In fact, we raise the question of the presumption of the right to life for the ancient forest! That is, do not grab your head when everything has already been destroyed. And not yet to prove to bureaucrats and businessmen that the ancient forest is really being destroyed, and that the ancient forest really needs to be taken under the legal protection of the state.

Need the exact opposite legal practice!

The merchant must long and persistently prove:

A.) That intervention in the ecosystem in this particular case has no alternative.

B.) That this intervention does no harm. And if damage to the ecosystem is inflicted, then it must be compensated in double the amount BEFORE any economic activity is started.

The presumption of the right to life.

The presumption of the right to life for the ancient forest.

Not … “if there are scientific grounds for the conservation of any valuable forest areas, they are given an appropriate protective status” … but if you want to use any natural resources, you must first compensate for the damage from such exploitation!

In fact, it is an INEVITABLE development of relationships in human communities. You and I, speaking out in defense of the ancient forest’s right to life, are only the first to speak out in defense of the future.

You and I, together with our cities and our civilization, are only a part of the Earth’s Biosphere. We are inscribed within the ecological systems of the living. And the right of the ancient forest to life is primary!

Moreover, now there is confirmed scientific evidence that it is the ecosystems of the ancient forest that form the climate. We allow individual especially greedy representatives of our species to devour the ancient forest for the sake of a psychopathological thirst for power and profit – we all perish, all of humanity, from lack of fresh water, hunger and the destruction of our own habitat.

THE PRESUMPTION OF THE RIGHT TO LIFE FOR THE ANCIENT FOREST IS OUR RIGHT TO LIFE FIRST OF ALL!

Companions! Right now we are fighting for the ancient forests of Russia! We are in favor of an unequivocal ban on cutting down ancient forests and for a ban on cutting down cedars. This is very important for the protection of all terrestrial ecosystems, for the protection of flora and fauna. The protection of ancient forests is, first of all, the preservation of points of self-restoration of ecosystems, the formation of refuges for wild animals, which people have practically exterminated.
